4 Tips to Be a Better Podcast Host

Podcasting is an art, which means it takes time, effort, and practice to get really good at it. Some podcast hosts make their shows seem effortless, but that’s usually far from the truth. There’s quite a bit of preparation, practice, and thoughtfulness put into crafting a podcast.

If you’re new to podcasting, or just looking to improve your craft, then check out these tips on being a better podcast host!

The key to effortlessness is to prepare beforehand. Conversations that flow smoothly, questions that guide the speakers in the right direction, cadences that keep the discussion engaging, etc. all require some level of preparation and practice.

It’s not uncommon for podcast hosts to create scripts for their shows, even for interview-style shows where the conversation is usually centered around a guest and their expertise. This helps to lower the chances for off-topic ramblings, boring interludes, and awkward pauses. This doesn’t mean that you should read a script word-for-word, but a little bit of preparation goes a long way! Read More

It’s no surprise that people love trailers – they’re quick, to the point, and when done well you’ll know pretty quickly if you’re the right audience for the TV show, movie, or in this case, podcast.

If you’re an avid podcast listener, you’ve probably heard your fair share of podcast trailers – the minute or two teasers that come before a new show or season.

But they’re not just a “nice to have,” podcast trailers are essential for brands and creators looking to build anticipation, reach new audiences, and effectively promote their podcast before it even airs.

A podcast trailer is a short, engaging preview of your podcast that gives potential listeners a glimpse into what your show is all about.

Typically lasting between 30 seconds to a couple of minutes, a podcast trailer introduces the hosts, teases upcoming content, and highlights the key themes or topics that the series will cover. Read More

Spotify announced in January that its newly rebranded Spotify for Creators platform will offer podcasters a monetization program similar to the YouTube Partner Program. To qualify, creators must have 12 uploaded episodes, 10,000 watch hours, and 2,000 unique listeners within a 30-day period. Earnings will come from ad revenue and Spotify Premium revenue, and creators will have the option to manually place ads in their content. This update positions Spotify as a competitive hub for hosting podcasts, both audio and video, and allows creators to monetize directly on the platform without additional hosting costs.

For those not yet meeting the full Partner Program thresholds, Spotify will also offer paid subscriptions with lower requirements. This tier only requires two uploaded episodes and 100 unique listeners in 30 days. Creators are encouraged to make the most of their existing content, re-upload back catalogs, and use Spotify’s promotional tools such as short clips to increase reach. Because Spotify distributes podcasts to multiple platforms through RSS, creators can benefit from revenue generated beyond Spotify’s own audience. This new monetization pathway gives podcasters, streamers, and content repurposers the opportunity to generate passive income from both new and existing shows. Watch Now

There’s a lot of ways to judge success in podcasting, awards happen to be one of them. They’re not just nice-to-haves. For brands, they can be a seriously strategic move.

These industry awards give you social proof, build trust, and boost visibility. We’re going to talk about why podcast awards are important and share a few you may want to enter.

Podcast awards offer more than bragging rights (though those are nice to have, too). For brands, they can validate the investment you've made in content. A win (or even a shortlist) gives your show credibility with both your audience and your internal stakeholders. It’s easier to justify a budget increase when you’ve got the trophies to prove the podcast is being done right. Read More
