Captivate Launches New Marketplace to Connect Indie Podcasters with Advertisers

Captivate is expanding monetization opportunities with a new advertising marketplace for podcasters.

Captivate has launched Captivate Marketplace, a new advertising marketplace designed to help independent podcasters connect directly with advertisers and unlock additional revenue opportunities.

Powered by a partnership with DAX US, the marketplace gives creators access to programmatic advertising, direct ad opportunities, dynamic ad insertion, and back-catalog monetization—all from within the Captivate platform. Importantly, participation is optional, and creators maintain control over which ads appear on their shows, where they're placed, and which categories they choose to exclude.

The launch reflects a growing industry trend toward making podcast advertising more accessible for creators of all sizes—not just large networks or celebrity-hosted shows.

What this means for indie podcasters

  • More advertising opportunities are becoming available to smaller and niche podcasts.

  • Dynamic ad insertion allows older episodes to continue generating revenue over time.

  • Creators can maintain control over advertiser categories, ad placement, and brand alignment.

  • Podcast monetization continues to evolve beyond traditional sponsorship outreach, making it easier for independent creators to diversify revenue streams.

As podcast monetization continues to mature, tools like Captivate Marketplace are helping level the playing field—giving independent podcasters more ways to generate revenue while maintaining ownership of their audience and brand.

Community Hot Take

Are Listeners Following Podcasts… or the People Behind Them?

A new report from Sounds Profitable suggests that audiences may not be as loyal to podcasts as they are to the creators behind them.

As creators expand across podcasts, YouTube, newsletters, social media, and live events, listeners are increasingly following the person rather than a single show. In other words, the relationship is shifting from audience → podcast to audience → creator.

The reality? For many listeners, your podcast is becoming just one touchpoint in a much larger creator ecosystem.

What's Behind It?

  • Audiences are discovering creators across multiple platforms—not just podcast apps.

  • Listeners are increasingly engaging with the same creator through podcasts, newsletters, videos, social media, and live events.

  • Creator trust and personality are becoming stronger drivers of loyalty than individual shows.

  • Successful creators are building recognizable personal brands that extend beyond a single podcast.

Underlying Questions

For years, podcasters have been encouraged to focus on growing their show.

But what if the bigger opportunity is growing your identity as a creator?

If listeners are following you instead of just your podcast, should creators spend less time asking:

"How do I grow my podcast?"

…and more time asking:

"How do I build a brand people want to follow everywhere?"

As podcasting continues to mature, the distinction between podcaster, content creator, educator, and entrepreneur is becoming increasingly blurred.

What are your thoughts?

Is this...

  • A positive shift that gives creators more opportunities to connect with their audiences across multiple platforms?
    OR

  • A reminder that podcasters may need to invest more in personal branding than ever before?

Final Thoughts

Whether someone listens on Apple Podcasts, watches on YouTube, reads your newsletter, or attends your live event, one thing is becoming increasingly clear:

People don't just follow podcasts—they follow people.

You will hear from people from all walks of life as they discuss their experiences. Maybe they will inspire you to go somewhere new. Maybe they will spur memories from trips you have taken already. Either way, enjoy getting to know our guests and, week after week, listen as we ask the question - Where Have You Been?
