The Hollywood actors' union began to strike at midnight last night, after negotiations to reach a new contract with production studios ended without an agreement. The two sides can't come to terms over demands for better pay and guarantees over the use of artificial intelligence. The strike brings the movie and television business to a halt. But what about the podcast industry? Will there be new episodes or new podcasts during the strike?
There seems to be no easy answer to that question. Entertainment.com reports that “actors are allowed to continue to host or perform on podcasts,” but actors cannot promote any product or shows they are part of. “Actors may not participate in promotion for work made under the contracts, including press tours, personal appearances, interviews, conventions, fan expos, film and television festivals, FYC events, panels, premieres/screenings, award shows, junkets, podcast appearances, social media, and studio showcases.” Read More
