How to Start a Video Podcast in 2024

Podfest Masterclass is an online, virtual summit that extends the commitment to world-class education, quality content and camaraderie that PODFEST has become famous for over the years. Our community is so much more than a collection of like-minded individuals – we are family!

This year’s topic, A.I. & CREATOR TOOLS, is designed to help our audience stay ahead of the game in content creation.

With all the good news around podcasting – exploding listenership, ad dollars pouring in, Ira Glass achieving immortality – there’s also one totally vexing news cycle: what to do about video podcasts. You keep hearing you need to make one. But chances are, you haven’t, and for good reasons: it’s hard, it’s expensive, it probably takes everything you’ve got just to get your audio episodes done.

What is a video podcast?

Don’t overthink this one. A video podcast is exactly what it sounds like: a podcast with video. While purists might say it’s a misnomer — a podcast, by many definitions, requires an RSS feed, and video podcasts are mostly hosted and distributed on YouTube, sometimes Vimeo, and podcast websites — a video podcast follows the same rules of an audio podcast but combines audio and video elements together. The video element could be as simple as a static image or as complicated as a fully-produced documentary-style interview.

Video podcasts are an excellent way for podcasters and content creators to share their knowledge, opinions, and stories with a wider audience, while also providing a more personal and interactive experience compared to traditional audio-only podcasts. But you don’t have to choose one or the other: most video podcasts are produced alongside an audio-only version. That way, you can cater to multiple audiences at once. Read More

Podcast sponsorship is a key goal for the vast majority of podcasters – but what’s the right way to go about it? We’ll break down what you’re doing wrong with trying to get sponsorship for your podcast and the steps you can take to get it right.

What is a Podcast Sponsorship?

Getting your podcast sponsored means securing an advertiser willing to pay you to endorse, or air their endorsement, of their product or service on your podcast. Typically, thanks to dynamic ad insertion, a sponsorship will last for an agreed period of time, and will involve their advertisement being played across all of your back catalogue, and you’ll then swap the advertisement out when that time is over. Alternatively ads can be ‘baked-in’ to episodes, but dynamically is usually the preferred method as it offers more flexibility and benefits for both parties. Read More

YouTube has recently updated its guidelines to include new rules for AI-generated content, ensuring creators are more transparent about their use of artificial intelligence. During the video upload process, creators will now see an option to declare whether their content has been altered by AI, although this disclosure is not mandatory, it is highly recommended.

YouTube is especially concerned about content that could potentially mislead viewers in critical areas such as elections, health information, and other sensitive topics. Violations of these new guidelines could lead to severe penalties for creators, including removal of content or even suspension from the YouTube Partner Program. Watch Now
