Glenn "The Geek" Herbert Honored with Prestigious Award

Glenn Hebert Becomes the 25th Recipient of the Prestigious Equine Industry Vision Award

Glenn Hebert, founder of Horse Radio Network, has been named the 2026 recipient of the Equine Industry Vision Award—an honor recognizing individuals and organizations that have made a lasting impact on the equine industry through innovation and leadership. This is one the most prestigious award in the Equine industry!

Hebert launched Horse Radio Network in 2008, helping pioneer podcasting within the equine space at a time when the medium was still largely unknown. Today, the network has grown into the largest podcast network dedicated to horse enthusiasts, with its flagship show Horses in the Morning becoming one of the longest-running daily podcasts in any genre.

Beyond building the network, Hebert has also been recognized for mentoring creators, supporting industry education, and helping podcasting gain legitimacy as a respected media platform within the equine world.

What this means for podcasters

  • Niche podcasting communities continue to prove their long-term value

  • Podcasting is increasingly being recognized by traditional industries and organizations

  • Building community and consistency over time can create lasting impact

  • Specialized podcast networks remain a powerful model for audience connection

This recognition is another reminder that podcasting’s influence continues to grow, not just in mainstream media, but within highly engaged niche communities around the world.

Podcast Searchability Is Expanding Beyond the Top Shows

Podchaser is dramatically expanding its podcast transcript coverage from 20,000 shows to roughly 150,000 podcasts.

That means more independent and niche podcasts will now have searchable transcripts available, including episodes dating back to January 2021.

According to Podchaser, this expansion is specifically designed to surface the “long tail” of podcasting; the smaller, specialized, and often overlooked shows where highly valuable conversations are happening.

The reality? Podcast discoverability may be shifting from:

  • who has the biggest audience
    to

  • who has the most searchable and useful content.

What’s Behind It?

  • AI and search tools rely heavily on transcript data

  • More platforms are prioritizing searchable spoken content

  • Independent and niche podcasts are increasingly valuable for specific audiences and industries

  • The “long tail” of podcasting is becoming more commercially and strategically important

Underlying Questions

For years, podcast visibility has largely been driven by:

  • charts

  • downloads

  • platform algorithms

But transcript expansion introduces a different possibility: discoverability through conversation content itself.

If spoken words become searchable at scale, podcasts may increasingly function like:

  • searchable media archives

  • niche search engines

  • AI-readable knowledge libraries

And that could benefit smaller creators in ways traditional rankings never did.

What are your thoughts?

Is this…

  • A major win for indie podcasters and niche communities?
    OR

  • Another step toward AI platforms extracting value from creator content without enough transparency or control?
