The Infinite Dial 2025 study by Edison Research reveals how digital media consumption continues its transformative growth across the U.S. Key findings show smartphones are nearly universal (91% ownership), and smartwatches (27%) and Bluetooth headphones (59%) are becoming common, underscoring the mobility of digital audio. Smart TVs (owned by 34%) and smart speakers (33%) are reshaping in-home audio consumption, while online audio has reached a milestone: 79% of Americans now listen monthly. Social media usage stands at 86%, with notable generational and political divides. Amid rising concerns, nearly half (48%) of Americans support banning social media for children under 16.

Podcasting has officially gone mainstream, with 55% of Americans now monthly podcast consumers and YouTube surpassing Spotify and Apple Podcasts as the most-used podcast platform. The study highlights the growing importance of video podcasting, though traditional audio remains dominant. In-car audio is also shifting: integrated systems like Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are now in 40% of vehicles, fueling digital audio growth while AM/FM radio still leads at 74%.
