Video Podcasting Growing In Popularity

Video podcasting has been on the rise for years. However, recently, video podcasts have become more significant than ever. Earlier this month, the New York Times published an article interviewing some of the largest podcast studios about integrating video equipment into their production, including the new offices of Exactly Right Media and the team at Crooked Media.

Last year, a survey on YouTube and podcasting found that “in 2021, YouTube was the third most accessed destination for podcasts. In 2022, it tied Spotify as the platform used most among weekly podcast listeners. Now across two studies in 2023, YouTube has pulled away from the pack and leads as the most used podcast platform in the U.S.” The survey also found YouTube was the preferred platform among “Heavy podcast consumers” (those who spent 6+ hours in the past week), “Podcast Newcomers” (those who began with podcasts in the last year) and “Podcast Pioneers” (those who started consuming podcasts four or more years ago). They also found that “A whopping one-third of the weekly podcast audience indicate YouTube was where they started listening to a new podcast.
